A new study in horses with osteoarthritis:
The results of a crossover study conducted at Louisiana State University suggest that Longvida® curcumin can help reduce pain and relieve lameness in horses with osteoarthritis. These results were recently presented to the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of an oral herbal supplement containing optimized Longvida® curcumin (1.06 g) in horses with osteoarthritis. Lameness and joint pain were the two main parameters. The researchers also conducted a gastroscopic observation to assess the gastric health effects of the herbal mixture. Lameness data were collected on days 0, 15, and 30, blood samples on Days 1 and 14; and gastroscopic observations on days 0 and 31.
The study shows that the herbal supplement, especially Longvida® curcumin, was safe for horses. After 30 days of feeding, pain response upon palpation had decreased in horses treated with Longvida® curcumin. Also, the peak vertical force of the lame legs in treated horses improved after one month. Gastric health was also maintained throughout the treatment process.
