Today, more than 15 % of the European adult population is affected by some form of arthritis or osteoarthritis. This percentage is increasing and symptoms appear earlier and earlier in affected patients.
Recently, Doctor Sharma from the University of Cincinnati-USA reviewed the results of nine clinical trials to see whether yoga can be an effective approach to the management of arthritis.
Of the nine studies published between 2010 and 2013, six showed positive changes in psychological or physiological outcomes related to arthritis.
The author concludes that despite differences in study protocols (number of participants, type of yoga, frequency of practice …) yoga appears to be a promising modality for arthritis.
